Challenge
Design and format a book for printing, tailored to the client’s specifications and using a previous book design as a reference, despite the absence of an InDesign or Publisher native file. Create an e-reader compatible eBook version of the design for maximum accessibility and convenience.
Solution
Attention to minute details and exceptional patience were fundamental to my approach. I meticulously cross-referenced and measured an existing hard copy, ensuring exact replication. Collaborating closely with my valued client, I swiftly adapted revisions to meet their requirements. Thorough research and seamless implementation were at the core of my strategy.
Book Design
Macauliffe Books Canada
The first book I had the privilege of designing was “India’s 1984,” a book that delves into the genocide that occurred in India in 1984, offering a unique perspective from the author. This project presented a significant challenge as it marked Lucas Design Studios’ inaugural endeavour with Macauliffe Books Canada, requiring me to format and design the book according to the specifications of an older publication for which I had no design file. Additionally, I had to meticulously size and format the photos for printing throughout the book. The third book in the series, “Musings,” served as a reflective narrative of the author’s life and the invaluable lessons they acquired along their journey. Utilizing the template from “India’s 1984,” I managed to complete the design of “Musings” more expeditiously, as it did not entail incorporating imagery. Ultimately, this undertaking provided a remarkable opportunity for me to showcase my technical prowess in a tangible medium. These books subsequently fueled the development of an e-commerce site designed and hosted by Lucas Design Studios, facilitating international online sales.
