Challenge

I volunteered as the graphic designer for this festival for three consecutive years, from 2017 to 2019. The first year required more extensive involvement, as it had been quite some time since a graphic designer had joined the volunteer committee, resulting in outdated designs. Taking it upon myself, I successfully revamped the festival’s branding across all mediums, embracing a modern design. Additionally, I was entrusted with the task of creating a new prominent sign for the town’s three entrances. It was my understanding that one of the festival committee’s primary goals was to reclaim the “FEO Top 100 Award,” which had been lost in the year before my involvement.

Solution

In order to successfully tackle this task, meticulous planning was essential. It was imperative for me to attend as many committee meetings as possible, as they provided valuable critiques of my work and valuable insights about the event that were reflected in the design. Collaborating with the committee as a team helped me adhere to advertising deadlines and prioritize the most important tasks. I had the privilege of providing professional advice to the committee, and they were highly receptive to my ideas. I was entrusted with the responsibility of redesigning the branding and updating the logo as I deemed appropriate, and the results were well received by both the committee and the community.

The Mount Forest Fireworks Festival has been a remarkable success for three consecutive years, earning the prestigious “FEO Top 100 Award” all three times. This festival not only provided a platform for me to showcase my exceptional graphic design skills, but also allowed me to actively contribute to the community and its surrounding areas. By utilizing my professional expertise, I had the privilege of assisting in the organization of this beloved community event. In addition to my design contributions, I took the initiative to lead a survey of festival attendees using iPads and a team of dedicated volunteers. This survey gathered real-time demographic data, providing valuable insights into the interests and preferences of our audience. The committee president initially proposed this idea, and thanks to its success, the survey data was included in the FEO application write-up, offering empirical evidence of the festival’s excellence to secure its place among the “Top 100” events.
